The look and name of my blog has changed … I wanted a place where I could include everything from family and personal posts to photography and other interests as well. There is a little bit of everything. This blog, for me, is about my learning to fill my life with “happy”.
On Friday, my youngest, Ben, got to go skiing for the first time. He is 6. Not only was this something that I hadn’t given a lot of thought to, as you see, he is a special needs child, but I hadn’t even considered the possibility that this would change the way I look at his life, at our lives as a family. My eyes were opened to the possibilities of all of the joy he will be able to experience in his life. Before this, I had thought that he might not really get a lot out of the activity ( and others like it – call me crazy) but when I saw his smiling face and heard him laugh for two hours out in the beautiful sunny, snowy weather —- well, wow, is all I can say.
Gary, Jordan and I skied and snowboarded along side him as the Powderhounds ( the adaptive ski program at Big White) raced him to the bottom of the runs – no stopping! They were fantastic and really, tears come to my eyes when I remember how great this moment was for all of us. Pretty cool. Here are a few pics… yes, he IS sleeping in the group photo… ha – must have been the fresh air!
That is so cool Joanie!! I can just see his Great BIg Smile!! So happy for you!!
